Drunk driving is a serious issue. If you drive while intoxicated, you may endanger lives and face criminal consequences. However, even though you are aware of the risks, it can be easy to overindulge sometimes.

Thankfully, there are several tools at your disposal that can help you avoid driving under the influence of alcohol. Your phone can save lives and keep you out of jail. Here are some anti-drunk driving apps to consider downloading.

1. Have a Plan (Apple, Android, Windows)

This free app helps you prepare for a night out. You can input contacts into the app that you can easily text or call if you need a ride. If none of your contacts can help you out, Have a Plan also has a feature that locates and contacts local taxi services. This app also has an impairment estimator that provides you with an approximate guide to your BAC.

2. DrinkTracker (Apple)

Keeping track of your BAC is easy with DrinkTracker. First, you create a profile of your age, height, weight and gender. Then, you input your alcoholic intake. The app calculates all these details to provide you with a real-time estimate of your BAC. It costs $1.99.

3. DDVIP (Apple and Android)

This app rewards designated drivers with discounts, deals and rewards at participating bars, clubs and restaurants. Even if you are not a designated driver, this free app can help you find rides from ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft.

4. Breathometer (Apple and Android)

Breathometer is a free app that works in conjunction with an external breathalyzer-like device to provide you with a more accurate BAC test. The external device can connect via Bluetooth or audio jack. Breathometer also can get you in touch with contacts, rideshares and taxis.

5. Uber

Of course, one of the best apps for avoiding drunk driving is Uber. This on-demand car app is a convenient and often less expensive alternative to calling a cab.
